Applied Work-Based Experienced Learning

The A in the LeADERS program stands for Applied Work Based Experienced Learning (AWBE). AWBE provides students with real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills to develop their employability. In my Sophomore year (2022) I got a job with ODU Undergraduate Admissions Office as a campus ambassador. My responsibilities consisted of giving informative campus tours to prospective students, doing outreach via phone calls, traveling to different middle and high schools in the Hampton Roads area and giving them information about ODU as well as being a panelist and answering questions in front of hundreds of people. This job improved my professional development skills because I had to improve my public speaking, learn how to influence, I had to stay organized and manage my time wisely. This part of the LeADERS course was probably the most impactful because of the experiences I had while being on the job.

Future:

Having this position has improved my skills for professional development. I gained knowledge of crucial abilities like public speaking and organizing, and I made connections with nearby educational institutions. I got to deal with a variety of demographics, and this position encouraged me to take on leadership roles in my workplace.
