Writing Intensive
Research Methods in Psychology was the name of the writing-intensive course I completed (PSYC 318 W). In addition to studying psychological research protocols, we also learned how to read and produce research publications in accordance with APA guidelines. One of our assignments required us to write a research proposal paper with 2 other students. Our grade for this proposal was heavily weighted, and it necessitated extensive study on our own topic. We also had lab sessions where we learned how to find articles using specific databases, and writing sessions where we worked on specific sections of our proposal. We had to present our posterboard findings in front of the class at the end of the semester. I also feel like this class is very rewarding because, at the end of the semester, you will conclude your paper and see how much you've actually written.
Future: This course's strict formality has made me more prepared for graduate school and any post-back jobs I might apply for. Since public health epidemiology involves a lot of writing and research, a lot of what I did in this class has prepared me for potential future experiences.
This is a copy of the proposal we wrote in class. Myself and two other students wanted to look at the sleep effects of stimulant medication on children with ADHD.
